website: bloorcourt.com Bloorcourt is a neighbourhood and Business Improvement Area (BIA) in Toronto that has lacked a district identity causing the area to be less of a destination and more of a transitional local independent small business strip. The area has had a strong Portuguese, Greek, Italian and Latin American presence in its ethnic and immigrant evolution. Over the last 8 to 10 years it has increased in Ethiopian and Eritrean food businesses. The appearance of Shoppers Drug Mart, Tim Horton's and Pizza Pizza over the last 5 years are signs of corporate interest and perhaps gentrification? |
The area also has many social service providers, community groups and middle class families living north and south of Bloor Street. More recently new business have opened to cater the increasing creative, carefree, DIY culture of open-minded, environmental and health conscious individuals. Read more on BlogTO After two years of observing, engaging, networking, and more importantly living in and out the neighbourhood, I came to realize that the identity of the area can be extracted through its playfulness, diversity and humanistic essence that builds on the existing character and vitality of the people and cultures that comprise it. This logo was designed in collaboration with Haley Fiege and approved by the BIA board to be the official new logo for the area in June. |
