Festival at the Fort

website: festivalatthefort.ca

Having collaborated closely with Sid Bruyn for two consecutive years on production of the BIG on Bloor festival, I was his first choice for quick results on his lead project. He had little time to put together the branding and promotions as his application for Heritage Canada grant was approved in early July. This event was a site-specific theatrical performance at the historic Fort York on the war of 1812 which created Canada. This year was the pilot in preparation of the 200th anniversary in 2012.

I went down and photographed the honour guards, which is how the graphic was made. I also made the Festival at the Fort a brand so it could be used for the years to come.

I designed posters and postcards that were spread across City of Toronto public places such as libraries and museums in mid-August. I put up the website and hooked up a PayPal account for purchasing tickets. I also designed ads to specs for NOW Magainze (a weekly Toronto entertainment newspaper) for three weeks. And last but not least I designed the program the night before the first show.

It turned out to be a fantastic event with enough people attending every night -- surprising since it wasn't heavily advertised and the primary choice for buying tickets was through PayPal. I guess people are pretty comfortable with purchasing tickets online nowadays.

I love working with people and projects who pull off big things...fast! This was the quickest, least hassle, government supported project I had every worked on. You rock Sid. Thanks!
